Preparing for IELTS in 30 days is challenging but absolutely possible. Whether you are starting from scratch or looking to improve your score, a structured study plan can make all the difference. In this guide, I will walk you through a day-by-day plan that covers all four sections of the test.
Before You Start: Assess Your Current Level
Before diving into the study plan, take a full practice test under timed conditions. This will help you identify your strengths and weaknesses, and allow you to focus your preparation where it is needed most.
You can find free practice tests on the official IELTS website, in Cambridge IELTS books, or on our website. Make sure to time yourself strictly — the real test does not give you extra time.
Week 1: Foundation Building
Day 1-2: Listening
Complete two full Listening practice tests. After each test, listen to the recording again while reading the transcript. Identify why you missed each answer — was it a vocabulary problem, a speed issue, or did you simply not hear the answer?
Day 3-4: Reading
Complete two full Reading practice tests. Focus on your weakest question type. If you struggle with True/False/Not Given questions, spend extra time on those. Practice skimming and scanning techniques.
Day 5-6: Writing
Write one Task 1 and one Task 2 essay under timed conditions. Compare your essays to Band 9 samples. Pay attention to structure, vocabulary, and grammar. Identify your most common errors and make a list to review.
Day 7: Speaking
Record yourself answering Part 1, 2, and 3 questions. Listen to your recording and assess your fluency, vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. Identify areas for improvement.
Week 2: Skill Development
Day 8-10: Focus on Your Weakest Section
Spend these three days working on your weakest section. If it is Writing, write two essays every day. If it is Speaking, practise speaking for 30 minutes every day. If it is Reading or Listening, complete practice tests and review your mistakes.
Day 11-12: Vocabulary Building
Learn 20 new words every day. Focus on words that are commonly used in IELTS topics — education, technology, environment, health, and society. Use the words in sentences and try to incorporate them into your writing and speaking practice.
Day 13-14: Full Practice Test
Complete a full practice test under timed conditions. Review your answers carefully and note any patterns in your mistakes. Adjust your study plan for the remaining two weeks based on your performance.
Week 3: Intensive Practice
Day 15-21: Daily Practice
Complete one section of the test every day. Alternate between sections to keep your preparation balanced. After each practice session, spend time reviewing your mistakes and learning from them.
Focus on timing. Many candidates run out of time in the Reading and Writing sections. Practice completing each section within the time limit.
Week 4: Final Preparation
Day 22-26: Mock Tests
Complete a full mock test every day. Treat these as real test conditions — no distractions, no extra time, no breaks. After each test, review your answers and identify any remaining weaknesses.
Day 27-28: Review and Refine
Review your vocabulary list, grammar notes, and common mistakes. Focus on the areas where you still make errors. Do not try to learn new material at this stage — consolidate what you already know.
Day 29: Light Review
Do a light review of your notes and strategies. Do not cram. Get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy meal.
Day 30: Test Day
Arrive early, stay calm, and trust your preparation. Remember, the IELTS test is just a test — it does not define your worth or your future. Do your best, and that will be enough.

Final Advice
Consistency is key. Studying for two hours every day for 30 days is far more effective than studying for 10 hours once a week. Stay focused, stay motivated, and believe in yourself.
Good luck with your preparation!
